I've just spent the last half an hour outside, enjoying a naked eye view of excellent clear sky, down to approx mag. 5.3, yes 5.3, Epsilon Lyrae was visible with direct vision, as was Ursa Minor in it's entirety. Murphy's law holds true, it would seem. At least I can now say I saw a couple of Perseids as well, and strangely, a sporadic from the direction of Cygnus almost simultaneously timed with the second Perseid. The Milky Way was also clearly visible right across the sky. If only this had been last night, there would have been happier stories to tell.
